Cookie Policy
What cookies and similar technologies Gimmi uses, and why - in four straightforward categories.
Overview
Cookies are small pieces of data stored in your browser; your browser’s local storage is a similar, related technology used for the same kinds of purposes. Gimmi uses both, for four purposes: keeping the product working and secure, understanding how it’s used, measuring marketing (not currently active), and remembering your preferences. Except for the necessary items below, nothing in the optional categories runs until you choose to allow it.
Necessary
Required for Gimmi to function and can’t be switched off.
- sb-*-auth-token (first-party cookie)Keeps you signed in. Set by Supabase, the authentication provider Gimmi is built on.Duration: Persists until you sign out or it expires (session-based, refreshed automatically while you’re active).
- gimmi_consent (first-party cookie)Remembers the privacy choice you make below, so you’re not asked again on every visit.Duration: 12 months, or until you change your choice.
Analytics
Off until you say yes. When enabled, Gimmi records basic product-usage events (e.g. an event being created, a public page being viewed) directly to our own database - this is not a third-party analytics cookie, but the same opt-in choice controls it, since it’s still measurement of how you use Gimmi.
- Product usage events (first-party, no cookie)Understand which parts of Gimmi are used and where organisers get stuck. Never sold or shared for advertising.Duration: Stored in our database, not your browser - see our Privacy Policy for retention.
Marketing
Off until you say yes. Gimmi does not currently run any advertising or marketing-measurement technology (no Google Ads, no Meta Pixel, no retargeting). This category exists so consent is in place if that ever changes - nothing is set here today.
Preferences
Off until you say yes. Stored in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) on this device only.
- Display preferences (e.g. dark mode)Remember display choices you’ve explicitly made, so you don’t have to set them again.Duration: Until you clear it, change it, or withdraw Preferences consent.
- Default round settingsRemember your default Handicap Index and scoring format to prefill new rounds.Duration: Until you clear it, change it, or withdraw Preferences consent.
- Dismissed banners (e.g. What’s new, install prompt)Avoid re-showing something you’ve already dismissed.Duration: Until you clear it or withdraw Preferences consent.
Managing your choice
When you first visit Gimmi, a banner lets you accept all, reject non-essential technologies, or choose your preferences. You can review or change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the site footer or your account settings, or here:
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser’s settings at any time. Blocking necessary cookies will prevent you from staying signed in to Gimmi. Necessary technologies cannot be disabled through Gimmi’s own preference centre, since the product cannot function without them.
